Black Friday has come and gone, and today is Cyber Monday. In honor of this annual pilgrimage of shopping we submit our favorite initiatives that deliver digital shopper marketing engagement.
Some Black Friday Fast Facts:
• According to a survey from the National Retail Federation, up to 147 million people planned to shop Black Friday weekend (Friday, Saturday and Sunday), from thrill-seeking teen girls to hard-core huntresses. That’s a lot of people. In 2012, they reported $59.1 Billion was spent in the US.
• The day’s name originated in Philadelphia, where it originally was used to describe the heavy and disruptive traffic which would occur on the day after Thanksgiving. An alternative explanation is that retailers traditionally operated at a financial loss from January through November, and “Black Friday” indicates the point at which retailers begin to turn a profit, or “in the black” from red. Fact is it’s here to stay now whether you like it or not!
• Finally we have Cyber Monday…invented in 2005 by the NRF division Shop.org
