The Assignment

Dr. Seuss Enterprises engaged PrizeLogic to help support its nationwide search for kids who are moving mountains for themselves and others by excelling in Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math. (STEAM!)

The Idea

In keeping with its empowering message, Dr. Seuss encouraged users to nominate a child that is STEAMing ahead on www.kidsmovingmountains.com. PrizeLogic supported Dr. Seuss Enterprises in their effort to recognize and celebrate amazing children across the nation by offering them a chance to win a grand prize $10,000 scholarship, a trip to Universal Orlando’s Islands of Adventure theme park, and a once in a lifetime ride on the Goodyear Blimp!

HOW IT WORKED

Once registered, Parents & guardians, or children over the age of 13, were encouraged to nominate themselves or their children, ages 5 – 18, that excel in the areas of STEAM – Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math. After the nomination phase, people had the opportunity to vote on the approved entries, which narrowed down each STEAM category to the top 25 to be voted on by the panel of judges.

Following moderation, entries were posted to provide quality content and encourage social sharing. The entire process was designed for both desktop and mobile and worked seamlessly regardless of the device consumers used.

Prizing Strategy

One winner was selected from each of the five categories; from that group one grand prize winner was selected. The grand prize was a $10,000 Scholarship, a ride on the Goodyear Blimp and a trip to the Dr. Seuss theme park in Universal Orlando Studios. 4 finalists received $5,000 Scholarships. To encourage voting, each vote placed received a sweepstakes entry for a chance to win $500 cash (actually a check made out to them).

The Results

Following a soft launch, the program officially kicked off with a feature segment on The Ellen Show and a solid PR plan to drive awareness and participation. You can view the video here: EllenTv.com/DrSeuss.

The national initiative drove nearly 1,000 registrations per day and the UGC contest alone scored thousands of entries. Every U.S. State + D.C. was represented, which was a welcome achievement. The four category winners and finalists ranged in age from 11-18 and the grand prize winner was aged 11, the winning-est winner of all!
